As is well known, in the upstream of the chip industry, there is a software called “the mother of chips”, and some people call it the “crown of chip design”, which is EDA software.
The role of EDA software is not only in designing chips, but now it integrates chip design, comprehensive verification, physical design, simulation, testing, and other aspects.
Without EDA, how to arrange hundreds or thousands of transistors in a chip, how to arrange the wiring, and then conduct preliminary verification, simulation, and testing? It can be said that without this thing, chip design companies are struggling to move forward.
In the field of EDA, the three major American giants Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA (located in the United States and acquired by Siemens) have taken about 80% of the global market share. In the Chinese market, these three major enterprises have taken over about 90% of the market.
It is obvious that in this situation, domestic chip manufacturers are stuck by foreign EDA, so domestic EDA software manufacturers have been working hard and continuously advancing towards full process and advanced technology to replace foreign EDA, especially the three giants in the United States.
Recently, an EDA manufacturer in China stated that its key EDA products have supported advanced process nodes such as 7nm/5nm/3nm, as well as process routes such as FinFET and FD-SOI, and have gained international market competitiveness.
This manufacturer is Gallon Electronics and the second EDA manufacturer in China to support the 3nm process, with the first being Huada Jiutian.
At present, Galen Electronics has many partners, including nine of the top 10 wafer foundries in the world, including TSMC, Samsung Electronics, Liandian, Gexin, SMIC International, Huahong, etc., indicating that Galen Electronics is indeed capable.
So the question arises. With the EDA of Galen Electronics, which reaches 3nm, do we still need foreign EDA products? At present, it is still necessary and cannot be completely replaced.
As mentioned earlier, the current EDA is not only about design, but also involves comprehensive verification, physical design, simulation, testing, and other aspects. It is almost impossible for a single enterprise to handle the entire process and process.
Galen Electronics is also like this. Its EDA products are only engaged in a very small part of the field, achieving independent and controllable control in only some sub areas and having a strong moat, but it has not yet achieved independent and controllable control in the entire field of EDA.
Of course, any product comes step by step. With Gallon Electronics, Huada Jiutian, and many other domestic EDA manufacturers, we all work together. We believe that in the future, we can achieve full process and field autonomy and control, and reach international advanced standards. At that time, we can achieve comprehensive domestic substitution.
Especially now, the golden age of domestic substitution in the semiconductor industry has arrived, and this domestically produced manufacturer with technology and strength will definitely usher in a broader prospect.
