FG25 sub GHz SoC with long transmission distance, large memory, and high security is now fully available

This flagship sub GHz SoC is the ideal choice for smart cities and long-distance IoT

Beijing, China – February 15, 2023- Silicon Labs, a leading manufacturer committed to building a more connected world with secure and intelligent wireless technology (also known as “Silicon Technology”, NASDAQ: SLAB), today announced that its flagship version of FG25 sub GHzSoC has been fully available, which can be supplied through Silicon Labs and its distributor partners. FG25 is a flagship SoC designed for low-power wide area networks (LPWANs) such as Wi SUN and proprietary sub GHz protocols. It is equipped with a powerful ARM Cortex-M33 processor and larger memory. FG25 is an ideal SoC for long-distance, low-power transmission. When used in conjunction with the Silicon Labs EFF01 front-end module, it can achieve a transmission distance of up to 3 kilometers with minimal data loss in dense urban environments. With deployment scalability to thousands of nodes, powerful security and scalability make it an ideal choice for smart cities and long-distance IoT.
FG25 is also the first SoC in the Silicon Labs product portfolio to support orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation, which is introduced in the Wi SUN Area Network (FAN) 1.1 specification. OFDM supports a high data transmission rate of up to 3.6 Mbps, which helps FG25 achieve long-distance transmission, high throughput, and low latency in sub GHz Wi SUN applications.

FG25 SoC has been applied by multiple early participating customers worldwide, among which Landis+Gyr has upgraded the intelligent meter application through FG25 and Wi SUN protocols. As a global leader in energy management, Landis+Gyr has previously used Silicon Labs’ EFR32FG12 sub GHz SoC in its intelligent metering solution and achieved good results. Now, by adopting FG25 SoC, Landis+Gyr has further improved the performance of its intelligent metering solution. FG25 can use the same external dimensions as previous modules of Landis+Gyr, in order to easily enable existing products to have Wi SUN or OFDM functionality when necessary. Landis+Gyr can also run its private protocol stack on FG25 and support existing customers using private communication protocols to smoothly transition to Wi SUN.
In addition, Silicon Labs has passed the Wi SUN Alliance certification for the FAN 1.1 PHY layer. Customers can use this certification to reduce their burden when designing devices that comply with Wi SUN FAN 1.1 specifications.
