On February 15, 2023, China – Italy France Semiconductor released single channel, dual channel, and four channel automotive gate drivers using standard PowerSSO-16 packaging. The pin allocation diagram can simplify circuit design upgrades and add more drive channels.
The new gate driver is suitable for all automotive system equipment, including safety systems, comfort devices, powertrain, body electronics, infotainment systems, and driving assistance systems. It meets the LV124 deep cold start testing specifications of the automotive industry and can be used to drive heavy loads such as engine starting motors. It can also operate reliably in extremely cold winter conditions. The standby current of the new driver is very low, only a few microamps, which can minimize battery consumption when turning off the vehicle power and not using the vehicle.
The new driver adopts the proprietary VIPower M0-9 manufacturing technology of Italian semiconductor, which not only has high driving current and high energy efficiency, but also allows for the integration of rich functions on small chip areas. On chip functions include load current limiting, load drop protection up to 35V, and fast thermal transient limiting. Flexible reset management allows designers to configure drive failure response to better meet application requirements. By providing battery reverse protection through self conduction function, these drivers limit the dissipated power on the PCB to an acceptable level.
In terms of diagnosis, the high-precision proportional load current detection function can detect load failures such as open circuit of LED light strips. Other diagnostic functions include overload, short circuit to ground, short circuit to power VCC, and open circuit load detection. Regardless of whether the drive is turned on or off, all diagnostic functions will remain operational and faults can be detected even when the load shuts off the power supply.
This series includes five single channel drives, four dual channel drives, and two four channel drives. Single channel drives are VN9004AJ, VN9006AJ, VN9008AJ, VN9012AJ, VN9016AJ, dual channel drives are VND9008AJ, VND9012AJ, VND9016AJ, and VND9025AJ, and four channel drives are VNQ9025AJ and VNQ9080AJ. These chips are packaged in PowerSSO-16 with an area of 6.00mm x 4.9mm and a thickness of only 1.7mm, which is pin to pin compatible and compatible with the previous generation M0-7 series.
The new VIPower M0-9 series high side drives have been put into production and are available on the official website of ST.com or distributors of Italian Semiconductor.
